Luxury fashion group launches gold, platinum and silver shoes in Dubai during three-day exhibition

Dubai: Spending money on a few luxury items is a quick and easy way to pamper yourself, even if it does involve breaking open the piggy bank.
But how far are people willing to go for a pair of shoes?
At the latest Leatherworld Middle East exhibition, which runs until Thursday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the highlight of the three-day event was a pair of 24 carat gold shoes for Dh73,459 ($20,000).
In a statement issued by A&E Fashion Group, who launched the custom-made shoes, the firm said: “We use very precious leathers, crocodile, ostrich, python and others. In a world exclusive premiere in Dubai, we will be presenting the new collection in gold 24 carat, platinum, palladium and silver.”
The luxury hand-crafted shoes were also available at the exhibition for a pricey value of Dh80,804 ($22,000) for platinum and Dh12,488 ($3,400) for the silver pair.
According to the World Record Academy, the luxury haute couture brand Bicion and designer Dan Gamache have produced a pair of diamond-encrusted trainers at a cost of Dh14.69 million ($4 million) – setting the new world record for the Most expensive pair of sneakers.
The diamond-encrusted trainers were unveiled in New York at the beginning of April 2016, and set to be auctioned off to the US-based charity organisation Soles4Souls, which donates shoes to the needy.
