Mumbai-based Shreya Basu is in the news across the border for having sung the OST of Hum TV’s Ramadan play, Dil Waali Gali Mein, starring Sajal Ali and Hamza Sohail.

An excited Basu took to Instagram to express “how incredibly grateful I am to be a part of ‘Dil Wali Gali Mein’!” Talking exclusively to Gulf News, she revealed that the OST was her “first playback experience,” and that it was “a dream come true. Being in the studio, working, and seeing my voice become part of a larger project was just magical.”

When asked as to how she landed the Pakistani project, Basu said, “It was quite unexpected. My work was noticed by music producer Atif Khan who then reached out to me.”

Basu confessed to being a fan of Pakistani music. She also loves Pak TV dramas. “There’s a lot of great talent and creativity coming out of Pakistan,” she commented.

Basu, who began her singing journey with a children’s singing competition, and went on to become part of Rajadhiraj, “one of the biggest musicals from India, in which I was fortunate enough to sing alongside such music legends as Shankar Mahadevan, Sachin Jigar, Kailash Kher, and Shreya Ghoshal,” said that she is flattered by comparisons with Ghoshal. “That’s a huge compliment, as Shreya [Ghoshal] is an incredible artist. “It’s only a coincidence that our first names are the same. But I sincerely hope that people find my voice and singing style to be unique.”

She also teased a project she said she “can’t wait to share it with everyone!”
