Don't worry, you don't need to be in Korea to make delicious Korean food. Take cues from your idols, and make your comfort food at home!

If you’ve binged enough of Korean content like Run BTS, or Seventeen’s In The Soop, then you would have realised that your favourite K-celebrities aren’t just brilliant onstage, they’re exceptional in the kitchen. They know how to mix things up, add fresh twists to delicious Korean dishes, and make it just so appealing. So whether you’re a Jin or an RM (if you know, you know), there are some tasty Korean dishes you can try at home.

BTS's Jin: Janchi guksu (savoury noodles)

It's not a surprise that the entire band relies on his cooking skills during their variety shows, Run BTS, in The Soop. Furthermore, he has prepared dishes like doenjang-guk (soybean paste soup) and gamasot bokkeumbap (cauldron fried rice), to show his fans

His cooking philosophy? Throughout his cooking segments, Jin emphasises the importance of using fresh, quality ingredients and following traditional methods to create flavourful dishes. He often explains that his love for food and cooking began as a way to take care of himself, a sentiment that resonates with many fans.

Jin's savoury noodle delight recipe

What you need:

  • Thin wheat noodles

  • Green onions, onions, zucchini, and carrots

  •  Kimchi for that perfect tang

  •   Cooking oil, black pepper, and salt

For the broth: Dried anchovies, dried kelp, soy sauce, and salt

Method

  • Start by stir-frying your veggies (onion, zucchini, carrot, and green onion) in a bit of oil until they’re soft and fragrant.

  • Now, let’s get that broth going! In a pot of boiling water, toss in the dried anchovies and kelp. Boil it up, and then remove the ingredients. Add soy sauce and a pinch of salt. Let it simmer for a few minutes to make sure all those flavors really come together.

  • Time to cook the noodles! Boil them until they’re just right.

  • Lay your noodles in a bowl, pour in that fragrant broth, and voilà!

  • Final touch: Top with kimchi for a little extra zing and you’re ready to dive into this warm, comforting bowl of Jin-approved goodness!

  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)

  • 1 fried egg (for topping)

  • Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

  • Green onions (optional for garnish)

Method:

  • Heat the oil in a pan or wok over medium heat.

  • Add the chopped kimchi and sauté until it softens and becomes aromatic (about 2-3 minutes).

  • Add the rice, breaking up any clumps, and stir to combine with the kimchi.

  • Stir in gochujang (if using), soy sauce, and sugar, and cook for 2-3 minutes until everything is well mixed.

  • Fry the egg in a separate pan and place it on top of the fried rice.

Tteokbokki by EXO’s Chanyeol

EXO's Chanyeol shared his unique take on tteokbokki, a beloved Korean spicy rice cake dish, by adding a personal touch to the traditional recipe.

Classic ingredients: The dish still features the traditional components, including chili powder, gochujang (red pepper paste), sugar, eggs, green onions, fish cakes, and rice cakes.

Chanyeol's secret ingredients: To elevate the flavour, Chanyeol adds soy sauce and crushed garlic, bringing a deeper, richer taste to the dish.

Cooking method: Combine all the ingredients slowly in a pan, letting them meld together to create a rich, flavorful gravy. The garlic provides a robust, nutty flavor, making the dish more complex than the usual simple tteokbokki.
