Abu Dhabi: UAE flag carrier Etihad Airways’ flight - EY216- from Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport on April 11 was diverted to Jaipur Airport due to adverse weather conditions in India’s capital.

“Subsequently, the return flight EY217 from Delhi, Indira Gandhi International Airport to Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport on April 11 will also be delayed,” the carrier said in a statement.

The airline has apologised for the flight disruptions. “The safety and comfort of our guests and crew is our number one priority. We apologise for disrupting your travel plans,” the carrier explained.

More than 15 flights were diverted at Delhi Airport on Friday evening due to inclement weather conditions, according to an ET report. The nation's capital witnessed strong dust storms and gusty winds.

The airline released its traffic statistics for March 2025 on Friday. The carrier welcomed 1.6 million travellers during the month, up 14 per cent compared to last year.

The airline recorded a passenger load factor of 87 per cent in the first quarter of the year, up from 86 per cent in the same period in 2024, while expanding its capacity and increasing its operating fleet size by 10 per cent.

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, said, “Our guest numbers saw further strong growth, and across the 12 months to the end of March 2025, we have welcomed almost 20 million passengers.” He added, “In the past month alone, we have announced two new routes and increased flight frequencies, bringing the total number of new destinations scheduled for 2025 to 16."
