Will Cyber Orange make you change your views on the Mach-E?

With 459 horsepower and 830Nm of torque and 0-100kph in the mid-three-second range, no one can really question the Ford Mustang Mach E’s performance credentials. However, attaching the legendary Mustang name to an electric car hasn’t gone down well with fans of the pony car. Now, Ford has dipped into one of the most popular colours in the Mustang pallet to try and spice things up for the EV.

Ford is introducing Cyber Orange Metallic Tri-Coat for Mustang Mach-E GT. “Mustang has always turned heads and Mustang Mach-E will be no exception.” Says Dave Pericak, director, Ford Icons. “We can’t wait for Cyber Orange to hit the streets on Mustang Mach-E GT next year to fuel the passion of our orange Mustang fans.”

Orange has been one of the most popular colours for the Mustang throughout its history. Ford says this 1965 “Poppy Red” Mustang, which was actually orange, prompted many to name their Mustangs “Poppy!”

Orange returned in the mid-1970s, and true to the marketing strategy of the time that saw straightforward names such as “black”, “tan”, and “light blue,” the 1977 Mustang had “Orange” as a colour option.

The introduction of “Tangerine” in 1978 proved to be popular. This was the same year Ford introduced a Fashion Accessory Package for the Mustang.

1980 saw “Bright Bittersweet” in the colour options list.

“Competition Orange” joined the SVT Mustang Cobra lineup in 2004.

Five years later, the hue returned as “Grabber Orange Clearcoat” for the 2009 model.

Ford says “Competition Orange” accounted for a significant percentage of Mustang sales in 2015.

The current 2020 Mustang line-up has “Twister Orange” as the colour option.
