The Rolls-Royce Phantom Tempus is inspired by Time, and it has no clock!

Rolls-Royce has today announced a special limited edition to its flagship Phantom range. Dubbed Phantom Tempus Collection, this new iteration is inspired by Time. And ironic as it might seem, the clock on the dashboard has been removed from this collection.

However, the clock on the dashboard has been replaced, symbolically, by the Bespoke Starlight Headliner consisting of fibre-optic lighting and intricate Bespoke embroidery, mimicking the Pulsar, a rare astronomical phenomenon with very dense, white-hot stars that emit electromagnetic radiation in extremely regular pulses, hence considered some of the most accurate 'clocks' in the universe.

Rolls-Royce says another aspect of time – the illusion of its standing still – is captured in the ‘Frozen Flow of Time’ Gallery. This artwork is housed in the fascia from which the clock is deliberately omitted. A single billet of aluminium is milled to form 100 individually contoured columns, representing the 100-million-year period of a rotational spin of a pulsar star.

The Space- and Time-inspired theme continues with a swirling, twisting pattern of stars presented on the interior of the doors. Created by hundreds of illuminated perforations in contrasting leather, Rolls-Royce says these provide an "atmospheric aura" even when not illuminated.

The exterior of the Phantom Tempus Collection is painted in a new bespoke paint finish, Kairos Blue, which is said to "embody the darkness and mystery of space." The paint incorporates jewel-like blue mica flakes, which glitter as they catch the light, representing the stars.

That all 20 cars have already been reserved indicates that these are themes that truly resonate with our patrons around the world," says Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
