Maserati MC20 is brand’s first supercar in 15 years!

The Ferrari Enzo-based Maserati MC12 was a jaw-droppingly stunning supercar. But it was also limited production and short lived. Now, the Italian brand has revealed its first supercar since the MC12 of 2004.

Dubbed MC20 (MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020, the year of its world première), it is an extremely lightweight car weighing just under 1,500kg (kerb weight). And thanks to its power output of 621 horsepower, it boasts a weight to power ratio of just 2.33 kg/hp.

The MC20 has been developed and built completely in-house by Maserati designers and engineers at the brand’s facilities in Modena and the Viale Ciro Menotti plant.

Nettuno, MC20's twin turbo V6, is the first engine in two decades to be developed in-house and employs a patented combustion system developed by Maserati engineers, based on Formula 1 technology.

The engine puts out 621 horsepower and torque of 730Nm, helping the car go from 0-100kph in under 2.9 seconds and achieve a top speed over 325kph.

The MC20 gets butterfly doors that add visual drama to the supercar’s already beautiful lines. Maserati says these doors also enable optimal access to and from the cabin.

The cabin is driver-oriented, and Maserati says engineers and designers have taken care to keep it simple and minimalist. There are two 10 inch screens: one for the cockpit and the other for the Maserati Multimedia System.

The carbon fibre-clad central console houses just a few features: the wireless smartphone charger, the driving mode selector (GT, Wet, Sport, Corsa and a fifth, ESC Off, which deactivates the control functions), two speed selection buttons, the power window controls, the Multimedia System controls, and a handy storage compartment underneath the armrest.

For the launch, Maserati has also developed six new colours for the MC20: Bianco Audace, Giallo Genio, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, Nero Enigma and Grigio Mistero.

The production launch is scheduled for the end of 2020. Orders books are open now.
