Check out this European 1980 Pontiac Firebird restomod!

Not many can resist the charm of a Pontiac Firebird, after all, it is one of the most iconic American muscle cars of all time. But this particular model has been modified almost beyond all recognition...

This restomod may look like it has the front end of a 1967-68 first generation car but it is actually a second generation 1980 model. The quad square lights have been replaced with round ones and it also gets a pointy nose to mimic the appearance of the original...

But the profile reveals it is indeed an early Eighties Firebird Trans Am - replete with the desirable t-tops - but this car has been fettled with substantially...

It retains many highlights of the second generation model including the ducktail spoiler and wraparound rear window. Currently offered for sale in Latvia, we reckon there will be plenty of takers for this mean machine that costs about a fifth of the price of a supercar...

For those who know their Firebirds, this one is the Turbo variant - the raised intake on the bonnet is the giveaway - but those blown 4.9-litre V8s were not the most powerful motors. This one, however, has been tweaked to provide a few more horses over the stock engine...

From the factory, it made 210 horses and 468Nm of torque which may not seem like much today but due to emissions laws in 1980 this was one of the most potent performance cars you could buy. Anyway, this restomod has an output of 300 horses thanks to a larger turbocharger, a new fuel pump, and an electronic fuel injection system.

And that would be enough to be able to light up the tyres which wrap around new 20in wheels with a nice Firebird centre cap...

Overall, the interior retains the old-school look but other modifications include an aftermarket audio system and new bucket seats.

And as a final touch, the head rests get the iconic Firebird logo. With an asking price of $28,200, whoever buys this will really stand out on those Latvian roads.
