RTA lists offences ranging from fare evasion to safety breaches
Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a comprehensive list of violations for Dubai Metro users. Offenders may face fines ranging from Dh100 to Dh2,000, depending on the severity of the violation.
These rules are aimed at ensuring safety, cleanliness, and a smooth commuting experience for all passengers.
Travelling without a valid Nol card or misusing fare systems will cost commuters.
The most frequent offences are related to fare evasion, with each violation typically incurring a Dh200 fine.
Offences include:
Using public transport or crossing fare zones without paying the correct fare
Failing to present a valid unified Nol card upon request
Using a card designated for someone else
Using an expired, invalid, or unauthorised Nol card
Selling Nol cards without RTA approval
Using a counterfeit Nol card attracts a Dh500 fine.
Disruptive passenger behaviour on trains or in stations can lead to penalties. The RTA has outlined several behavioural offences, each punishable by a Dh100 fine, to maintain public decorum:
Causing inconvenience or disturbance to other passengers
Sitting in areas reserved for specific groups
Eating or drinking in prohibited areas
Misusing escalators or lifts
Boarding by climbing or jumping
Opening train doors or trying to enter/exit while the train is moving
Putting feet on seats
Carrying items that pose safety risks or inconvenience others
Sleeping in metro shelters or restricted areas: Dh300
Carrying alcohol on the metro: Dh500
Transporting hazardous items or tampering with emergency systems leads to severe fines.
Certain offences pose significant safety risks and attract higher penalties. These include:
Carrying dangerous or flammable materials: Dh1,000 fine
Damaging metro property, misusing emergency exits or safety devices: Dh2,000 fine
Ignoring official instructions or bringing unauthorised items can lead to additional fines.
The RTA also penalises non-compliance with station rules and signage. Fines include:
Dh100 for entering restricted areas, being in non-passenger zones, or bringing animals (except guide dogs)
Dh200 for:
Selling or promoting goods within metro premises
Failing to comply with inspector instructions
Misusing transport services
Smoking, littering, or spitting
Distracting the train driver
Leaving vehicles beyond the allowed time at metro parking spots comes with daily fines.
Drivers who park in designated metro parking areas beyond the permitted period are fined Dh100 per day, up to a maximum of Dh1,000.
