UN chief calls on US and Iran to halt new outbreak of fighting

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the United States and Iran Sunday to halt their new outbreak of fighting in the Mideast and resume talks to end it.

Guterres specifically mentioned US attacks on Iran and the latter's strikes on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and US allies in the Gulf region. "These attacks must stop," Guterres spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

Multiple explosions rock Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas in Iran

Iranian media reported that more than 12 powerful explosions were heard on Qeshm Island and in Bandar Abbas, with witnesses reporting large plumes of smoke rising from several locations.

Kuwait says drone attacks hit border posts, oil platform

The Kuwaiti military said three land border posts in the north of the country were targeted in a hostile drone attack, causing material damage.

In a statement, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al Atwan, said an offshore drilling platform operated by Kuwait Oil Company in Kuwait’s territorial waters was also struck by a hostile drone.

The attack caused material damage and injured one worker, who is receiving the necessary medical treatment.

Kuwaiti authorities said the relevant agencies immediately launched the required response measures in coordination with concerned bodies.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said the military is on full readiness and has taken all necessary measures to safeguard the country’s security and territorial integrity.

One killed, two injured in attacks on southern Iran

Iranian state media reported Sunday that an employee of a telecommunications company was killed in attacks in the southern province of Hormozgan on the Gulf, as hostilities resumed between Tehran and Washington.

"Following the enemy attack on Farur in Bandar Lengeh, one employee of the Mobile Communications Company of Iran was killed while carrying out his duties, and two of his colleagues were injured," the IRNA state news agency reported.

Projectiles hit Iran's Gulf island of Qeshm

Iranian state media are reporting new attacks on military targets on Iran's Qeshm island, near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency cited the island's governor as saying just under a dozen projectiles had been fired since Sunday afternoon and that there were no casualties.

There was no immediate comment by the US military.

Arab Parliament calls for action after Iran strikes

The Arab Parliament has strongly condemned the missile and drone attacks carried out by Iran against Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain and Jordan, warning that the escalation poses a threat to regional security.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi said the attacks were a violation of the sovereignty of Arab countries and a breach of international law and the UN Charter.

Al Yamahi said the latest developments could further increase tensions in the region and undermine efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability.

He stressed that any attack on the sovereignty or territorial integrity of an Arab state represents a threat to wider Arab security and requires a strong response from the international community.

The Arab Parliament also called on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to take immediate action to stop further attacks, ensure accountability, and uphold international law.

Trump says US hit Iran 'very hard' in latest attacks

President Donald Trump said Sunday the United States hit Iran hard in response to its latest attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

"We hit them very hard last night," Trump told CNN by telephone in an interview centering mainly on the death of Senator Lindsey Graham.

Trump said the United States and Iran had been close to "a deal" on Saturday. "They were giving up everything, and then all of a sudden two hours after that they hit a ship with a drone. These people, there is something wrong with them," he said.

US says Strait of Hormuz remains open despite Iranian threats

The United States military has said the Strait of Hormuz is open to all vessels seeking to lawfully transit the international waterway, adding that American forces are positioned and prepared to safeguard freedom of navigation.

US Central Command said maritime traffic through the strait was continuing despite the Iranian aggression, harassment, threats and arbitrary declarations. It stressed that Iran does not control the strategic waterway.

“The Strait of Hormuz is open to all vessels seeking to lawfully transit the international waterway,” the command said. “Traffic is flowing.”

According to figures released by the US military, American forces have facilitated the passage of more than 800 ships and over 400 million barrels of crude oil through the strait during the past two months. More than 140 ships have also passed through the waterway over the past seven days.

The military said transit routes through the strait remained available and that its forces were prepared to ensure continued access for commercial vessels transporting goods and energy.

GCC accuses Iran of undermining regional security

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, has strongly condemned what he described as Iran’s continued actions that threaten regional security and stability. In a statement issued on Sunday, he accused Iran of repeatedly targeting Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and Jordan, and of carrying out serious attacks on commercial vessels.

Albudaiwi said these actions violate international law, the United Nations Charter, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and threaten freedom of navigation. He added that the repeated attacks hinder efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region and reflect a deliberate attempt to spread chaos.

The GCC, he said, supports all measures taken by the six Gulf states and Jordan to strengthen security, protect sovereignty, and ensure the safety of their people and residents.

Oman summons Iranian ambassador, issues formal protest

Oman on Sunday issued a formal protest to the Iranian ambassador following an attack on the country, state media reported, in a rare instance of it publicly accusing Tehran of targeting its territory.

"Oman expresses its profound dismay at these irresponsible acts, and underscores the imperative of adhering to the provisions of state sovereignty, good neighbourliness, non-interference in internal affairs," the state news agency said in a post on social media, just a day after Oman hosted the Iranian foreign minister for talks on the Strait of Hormuz.

UAE condemns Iranian attacks on Gulf states

The UAE has strongly condemned the renewed Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Sultanate of Oman with missiles and drones.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks were a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the countries concerned and posed a serious threat to their security and stability.

The ministry reaffirmed the UAE's full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Oman, and reiterated its support for all measures aimed at safeguarding their security and stability.

Qatar calls Iran attacks a 'dangerous escalation

Qatar on Sunday condemned Iranian attacks against its territory and its neighbours, after the Islamic republic launched salvos against Arab countries.

"Qatar condemns in the strongest possible terms the renewed attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran," the foreign ministry said in a statement, also referring to the targeting of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait and calling the barrages a "dangerous escalation".

Overnight US strikes killed Iranian soldier

Overnight US strikes on Iran killed one soldier, Iranian media reported Sunday after fighting resumed between the foes.

"Lieutenant Hamidreza Dehghani, of the navy of the Islamic republic's armed forces, was martyred during the criminal, terrorist attack last night by the United States on the port of Jask" in southern Iran, the Mehr and Tasnim news agencies said, citing a local official.

Australian Embassy in Qatar closed today amid tensions

The Australian Embassy in Doha has closed its public services on Sunday due to the ongoing regional security situation, as Qatar responded to fresh security alerts and reported missile interceptions.

In a statement, the embassy said it would remain closed to the public “due to the ongoing regional security situation”. Australians requiring urgent assistance were advised to contact the 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre at +61 2 6261 3305.

The closure came as Qatar’s Ministry of Interior reportedly raised the security threat level for the second time on Sunday, with residents urged to remain indoors during interception operations.

Iran adviser says Hormuz 'more important' than nuclear bombs

An adviser to Iran's supreme leader said that the Strait of Hormuz was more important than "dozens of atomic bombs", vowing to protect the vital waterway.

"This strategic passage is more important than dozens of atomic bombs, and the Islamic Republic of Iran will protect it," Mohsen Rezaee was quoted by the ISNA news agency as saying. Western countries accuse Iran of seeking to create an atomic bomb, but Tehran has insisted its nuclear programme is for peaceful, civilian purposes.

Qatar suspends maritime activities until further notice

Qatar’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) has temporarily suspended maritime activities following a circular issued on Sunday, citing public safety concerns.

The suspension applies to owners and users of marine vessels, including leisure boats, fishing boats, jet skis and other similar craft. The measure is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.

The ministry said vessels covered by international maritime conventions are exempt and may continue operating in line with applicable regulations and procedures.

MOT urged the public to comply with the directive and said any updates would be announced through official channels in coordination with relevant authorities.

Qatar condemns Iranian strikes as Gulf tensions escalate

Qatar has condemned Iran’s attacks on its territory and other targets in the region, calling them a dangerous escalation that threatens efforts to restore security and stability.

In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks were a “flagrant violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity” and a “blatant breach of international law”. It held Iran fully responsible for the consequences of the actions.

Doha said it reserves the right to respond, while calling for an immediate and complete halt to military escalation across the region.

Strait of Hormuz threat level remains ‘severe’: UKMTO

The maritime security threat level in the Strait of Hormuz remains “severe”, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

UKMTO said that despite Iran’s July 12, 2026 claim that the waterway was closed, the southern route remains available and has been expanded to support two-way traffic.

Saudi Arabia condemns Iran’s ‘destabilising behaviour’

Saudi Arabia has condemned what it called Iran’s “destabilising behaviour” and repeated attacks in the region.

The Foreign Ministry accused Tehran of violating international law, the UN Charter, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Charter and principles of good neighbourliness through attacks on commercial vessels that threaten maritime security and freedom of navigation.

Saudi Arabia was not targeted in the latest Iranian strikes, but a Saudi oil tanker was damaged while passing through the Strait of Hormuz last week.

Oman condemns attack on its territory

The Omani government lambasted on Sunday an attack on its territory, state media announced, with Iran's Guards saying they targeted it during a barrage aimed at countries across the Gulf.

The Oman News Agency said on X that "the Sultanate of Oman affirms its condemnation and denunciation of this attack", which came just hours after the country hosted Iran's foreign minister to address security issues in the Strait of Hormuz.

Strait of Hormuz southern route remains open, JMIC says

The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) said the southern route through the Strait of Hormuz remains open despite Iran’s claim that the strategic waterway has been closed.

In an advisory on July 12, JMIC said the security threat level in the area remains severe, but the southern route has been expanded to allow two-way vessel traffic.

Mariners were advised to remain alert, follow safety procedures and coordinate with relevant maritime authorities.

The US Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) also said the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and that the southern route remains open, with forces committed to maintaining freedom of navigation and lawful commerce.

Kuwait denounces Iranian attacks as sovereignty violation

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted the country early Sunday, describing them as a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement, the ministry said the attacks represent a “repeated hostile approach” and a direct threat to Kuwait’s security, stability, and the safety of citizens and residents.

Kuwait said the attacks were a breach of international law, the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, warning that continued escalation could further increase regional tensions and undermine diplomatic efforts.

The ministry reaffirmed that Kuwait’s security and sovereignty are “inviolable” and said the country reserves its right to take all necessary measures to protect its interests in accordance with international law.

Iran says US strike hit communication infrastructure in Kerman

Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that communication infrastructure in Kerman province was hit in a US attack.

The report did not provide further details on the extent of the damage or whether there were any casualties.

Military facility in Iran’s Yasuj hit in US strikes

Iranian security officials told state-linked IRIB news agency that US forces struck a military facility on the outskirts of Yasuj in southwestern Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province.

The reported attack comes after the US carried out three rounds of air strikes on Iran over the past week, following Iranian attacks on ships travelling through the Strait of Hormuz via routes aimed at avoiding Iranian territorial waters.

UAE confirms threats outside borders, defences on alert

The UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) said the situation remains stable, with national systems maintaining the highest level of readiness.

NCEMA, in coordination with its strategic partners, confirmed that missile threats detected this morning were outside the UAE’s borders.

The authority said there are currently no indications of concern, while national monitoring systems continue operating around the clock to track developments.

NCEMA added that precautionary alerts are issued proactively, even when the likelihood of impact is low, and urged the public to rely on official channels for updates.

10 Indian nationals rescued, one missing after Oman vessel attack

India has condemned the attack on commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, saying 10 of the 11 Indian nationals on board have been rescued while one remains missing.

The Indian Embassy in Oman is coordinating with Omani authorities in the ongoing search and rescue operation and thanked them for their support.

India said continued attacks on commercial shipping in the region are “deeply worrisome” and called for immediate de-escalation, a diplomatic solution, and restoration of free navigation through international waterways.

Pakistan FM calls for 'restraint' in call with Iran counterpart, ministry says

Pakistan's top diplomat called for "de-escalation" and for parties in the Iran conflict to "show restraint" during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart on Sunday, a foreign ministry statement said.

"Both leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional situation," Pakistan's foreign ministry said in a statement after the call between Ishaq Dar and Abbas Araghchi.

Dar "further underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving disputes and achieving lasting peace and stability in the region", it said.

Iran says US air strikes hit five cities in Bushehr province

Iran’s state news agency IRNA, citing a local official, reported that US forces carried out air strikes on five cities in Bushehr province, including Asaluyeh, Dir, Bushehr, Dashti and Tangestan.

Jordan army says three Iranian missiles fell inside country

Jordan's army said Sunday that three Iranian missiles fell on the kingdom's territory at dawn amid renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States.

"Three missiles fired from Iranian territory fell at dawn in several locations across the kingdom, without causing any casualties. The damage is limited to minor material losses," said a military source quoted in an army statement.

Iran claims drone attacks on US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain

Iran’s army has claimed it carried out waves of drone attacks targeting US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.

In a statement, the army said explosive drones were used to strike a Patriot air defence system, an ammunition depot and a radar facility linked to US forces in Kuwait.

It also claimed another wave of drone attacks targeted a US communications system and radar site in Bahrain.

Iran said the strikes were in response to what it described as ongoing US attacks on areas in southern Iran.

US strikes 140 Iranian military targets in third round of attacks

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it has completed a third round of strikes against Iran this week, targeting around 140 Iranian military sites in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, US forces used precision weapons launched from land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, drones and naval vessels to strike Iranian missile and drone facilities, naval assets, ammunition storage sites, communication networks and coastal surveillance locations.

The latest operation brings the total number of targets hit by US forces over three nights to more than 300, with CENTCOM saying the strikes were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.

Despite the escalation, CENTCOM said commercial vessels continue to transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.

The command added that US forces have helped facilitate the safe passage of more than 800 commercial ships and 400 million barrels of crude oil through the strait since early May.

IRGC accuses US of ‘imposing its will’ on Oman

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has accused the US of trying to “impose its will” on Oman, claiming Washington attempted to direct several vessels through what it described as an “illegal route” in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the IRGC said the move was blocked by the Iranian navy, which delivered a “decisive response”. It added that the US later targeted “several coastal bases and telecommunications towers” along the southern coast.

The IRGC said it had, “as promised”, responded with a “crushing response” to what it called US aggression, referring to its claimed strike on Jordan’s Prince Hassan Air Base.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defence said its armed forces intercepted a missile attack targeting the country on Sunday morning local time.

Iran's IRGC claims missile attack on US base in Jordan

Military site hit in Iran’s Bushehr as US strikes continue

At least 12 explosions were reported across Iran’s Bushehr province amid ongoing US attacks, according to state broadcaster IRIB.

Military sites, including barracks in Bushehr’s Risheh neighbourhood and a post in Bandar-e Deyr, were reportedly hit. Explosions were also reported in Asalouyeh and Kangan.

The US military said Saturday it has launched a new round of strikes against Iran, after Tehran "blatantly attacked" a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

It was the third round of strikes against Iran this week, US Central Command said in a statement, "after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces blatantly attacked M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz."

"The United States is imposing a heavy cost by continuing to degrade Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the strait," CENTCOM said, adding that the strikes were being carried out at the direction of President Donald Trump.

Iran Guards say closing Hormuz strait 'until further notice'

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed "until further notice" after firing warning shots at a ship taking an "unauthorised route", state media reported.

The vessel was "hit by warning shots and stopped", the Guards said, according to official news agency IRNA. "Following this incident, firstly, due to the emergence of this insecurity due to illegal intervention by foreigners, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice and until the end of American interventions in this region and no vessels will be allowed to pass through," they added.

Iran tells US attacks in Strait of Hormuz were misstep: Report

Iranian officials have privately informed advisers to US President Donald Trump that recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz were an error, CBS News reported, citing American officials.

According to CBS News, the attacks stemmed from a specific faction within Iran looking to undermine the negotiations between the US and Iran.

Furthermore, CBS News reported that the White House wants Iran to "publicly" acknowledge the mistake, which the Trump administration views as a "violation" of the ceasefire.
