Dubai: Al Maktoum Road in Dubai was closed temporarily, in the direction from Etisalat intersection towards Clock Tower, after a fire broke out in Al Khaleej Plaza Hotel on Al Maktoum Road on Thursday. No injuries or deaths were reported.

Motorists and other road users were advised by the police to take alternative routes. The road was later opened for traffic after 2pm.

Dubai Civil Defence Operations Room received a report at 11.55am, stating that a fire had broken out in Al Khaleej Plaza Hotel in the Al Riqqa area of Dubai.

Rescuers from the Port Said Fire and Rescue Center were immediately dispatched to the spot and the first-responders arrived at the site at 12.02pm. The fire was found to have borken out in a store on the third floor of the hotel. Civil Defence teams and first-responder units succeeded in rescuing the trapped people and bringing the blaze under control.

At 1.36pm, the field commander of the Civil Defence team announced that the fire was under control. Cooling operations by the specialised teams started at 2.21pm, before the building was handed over to the competent authorities for investigations.
