Property-related offences rise 33% to account for more than 62% of all cases

Dubai: Nearly 21,000 crimes were recorded in Oman in 2025, up 14.8 per cent from the previous year, with property-related offences accounting for almost two-thirds of all cases, according to official statistics.
Figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed property offences rose 33 per cent to nearly 13,000 cases, representing 62.3 per cent of crimes recorded nationwide.

Offences against individuals were the second-largest category at 28.8 per cent, while crimes involving public administration and public trust accounted for 3.5 per cent. Liquor and public drunkenness offences represented 2.8 per cent, and moral offences 2.1 per cent.
An average of 58 crimes were recorded each day, compared with 50 in 2024. The national crime rate stood at 3.9 offences per 1,000 people.
Muscat recorded 8,916 offences, or 42 per cent of the national total, followed by North Al Batinah with 3,002, South Al Batinah with 1,985 and Dhofar with 1,827. Al Wusta recorded the fewest, at 120.
The number of people charged or apprehended in connection with crimes rose about 10 per cent to 26,847, with men accounting for 85 per cent. People aged 30 to 39 formed the largest group, accounting for 9,647, or 36 per cent, while 751 offenders were under 18.
The number of individuals and entities affected by crime rose 14.6 per cent to 21,900. In contrast, cases classified under Public Rights fell 52.2 per cent to 1,543.
