Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved two key infrastructure projects designed to ease congestion and improve mobility across the emirate.

The first project will see the upgrading of the Sharjah Ring Road, running alongside the Etihad Rail station, over a 5km stretch. The development aims to significantly ease traffic pressure on Mleiha Road. As part of the plan, the University City Bridge will be expanded to four lanes — two in each direction — enhancing traffic flow all the way to Rakan Bridge.

The second project includes the construction of a new Dh 60 million bridge near the Martyrs Monument. The bridge will provide a seamless, non-stop route for motorists travelling from Mleiha Road towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and for drivers heading from Sheikh Khalifa Street towards Mleiha Road.

The approval reflects Sharjah’s ongoing commitment to developing its infrastructure and strengthening its road network to keep pace with rapid population and urban growth. Officials say the two projects will improve road safety, reduce congestion, and shorten travel times between key areas in the emirate.
