Dubai: The UAE has confirmed that its markets are free of frozen berry products recalled in the United States over concerns about possible E. coli contamination.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment said the affected products, sold under the GreenWise brand, had been withdrawn from US markets as a precaution following concerns that they could be contaminated with Escherichia colibacteria.

In a post on X, the ministry said the announcement followed checks by the relevant regulatory authorities, including a review of import and local market distribution data.

No affected products were found to have entered or been sold in the UAE.

US authorities had initiated the recall after identifying a potential contamination risk involving the frozen fruit products.

E. coli bacteria are commonly found in the intestines of humans and animals, but some strains can cause foodborne illness.

Symptoms can include severe stomach cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting, while some infections can lead to serious complications, particularly among young children, older people and those with weakened immune systems.
