Authorities call for cameras, fencing, licensed material purchases to curb thefts

Sharjah: Sharjah: Sharjah Police have rolled out a new awareness initiative aimed at protecting construction sites and safeguarding ongoing projects from theft and unsafe practices. Launched in cooperation with Sharjah City Municipality and the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), the campaign, “Safe Construction Environment,” will run until the end of November and seeks to raise public awareness on the importance of security at building sites.
The initiative calls on property owners, contractors, and developers to cooperate with authorities and adopt proactive measures to prevent criminal activity and ensure a safe working environment. Authorities said the campaign is part of a wider effort to strengthen public safety across the emirate and protect construction and infrastructure projects from loss and damage.
Sharjah Police emphasised that maintaining security at construction sites is not only a preventive measure but also a legal responsibility. Authorities are working closely with construction stakeholders to promote compliance and create a safe environment for workers and the community.
Key safety measures recommended by Sharjah Police include:
Installing CCTV cameras to monitor activity at all times.
Appointing security personnel to supervise construction sites.
Erecting temporary barriers or fences to limit unauthorised access.
Purchasing construction materials only from licensed suppliers with proper invoices to avoid legal liability in case of illegal or unverified materials.
