Emirates prepares for a packed December with millions expected to depart, arrive in Dubai
Dubai: Emirates is preparing for one of its busiest months in years, with more than 2.3 million departures and 2.5 million arrivals expected through December. The airline says peak tourist season, major local events and the recently updated KHDA school calendar will create a surge in airport traffic across the next several weekends.
Emirates is advising customers to factor in heavier road congestion, fuller car parks and longer processing times at Dubai International. The airline is asking passengers to arrive three hours before departure, pass immigration at least 90 minutes before take-off and be at the boarding gate one hour ahead.
The airline says travellers who prepare early will have a smoother experience and more time to enjoy lounges, restaurants and other facilities before boarding.
To help ease the pressure, Emirates is pushing customers to use the Emirates app to check in 48 hours before departure, retrieve digital boarding passes and register for biometric processing.
Biometric registration gives travellers access to smart gates and faster movement through Emirates check-in, gates and lounges.
Online check-in via Emirates.com is also available 48 hours ahead of departure.
Passengers can avoid airport queues entirely by checking in at the Emirates City Check In and Travel Store at DIFC. The facility allows customers to check in and drop luggage from 24 to 4 hours before departure, with free parking included.
Between December 15 and January 15, customers who check in here will receive 2,500 Skywards Miles each, including children.
The Emirates City Check In Ajman, open 24 hours a day, also allows early check-in and baggage drop.
Travellers departing from Dubai can drop off luggage at the airport the day before their flight at no charge, easing pressure on the day of travel.
Customers can also opt for Home Check In, where Emirates agents complete check-in at the traveller’s house, hotel or office and take bags directly to the airport. The service is complimentary for First Class passengers and Platinum Skywards members.
Emirates is reminding passengers to check the latest restrictions before packing. Only one power bank under 100 watt hours is permitted per passenger, and it must be carried in the cabin. Smart bags are allowed only if batteries are removable. E-cigarettes and similar devices must be carried on board and protected to prevent accidental activation.
With millions expected to pass through Dubai International in the coming weeks, Emirates says preparation and early planning will be key to getting ahead of the festive rush.
