Egyptian expat Adel Abdelhay has called the UAE home for 13 years
Dubai: What was meant to be a regular holiday to Malaysia has turned into the trip of a lifetime for a UAE-based couple, thanks to a lucky windfall.
Adel Abdelhay, an Egyptian expat who has called Ras Al Khaimah home for the past 13 years, has won Dh100,000 in the UAE Lottery’s Lucky Chance draw. It’s a moment he described as nothing short of surreal.
“It’s an amazing feeling when someone calls and says: ‘You’ve won Dh100,000,’” said a thrilled Abdelhay. The win came during an already meaningful month for the family, with birthdays of both his wife and mother adding to the joy.
His wife, Christie, a British expat, was in disbelief at first.
“I was like, ‘No, no, for sure, no.’ It couldn’t possibly be,” she laughed, still trying to grasp the surprise.
The couple had been planning a trip to Malaysia this August but that plan just got an upgrade.
“I think that will now be a slightly higher-level trip than we were previously planning,” said Christie.
Abdelhay, who is still soaking in the excitement, said the prize has opened up many new possibilities. “I’m thinking of doing so many things. It’s a nice gift. It has come at the right time,” he added with a smile.
