Cairo: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman arrived Monday night for a two-day visit to Egypt, the third leg of a regional tour he started on Thursday.

Egyptian President Abdul Fattah Al Sissi welcomed Prince Mohammad at the Cairo airport ahead of their talks, Egypt's state Middle East News Agency reported.

“The talks will focus on ways of enhancing ties between the two brotherly countries in different fields,” presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

“They will also discuss some political files of mutual interest within the framework of strategic partnership between Cairo and Riyadh,” Radi added without details.

Egyptian state media reported that Al Sissi and Mohammad will review developments in troubled Yemen, Libya and Syria as well as anti-terrorism efforts.

On Thursday, Prince Mohammad kicked off his Arab tour that already took him to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain

He will leave on Tuesday Egypt for Tunisia. Later this month, he will head to Argentina to represent Saudi Arabia at the Group of 20 summit.

His current trip to Cairo is the second this year. In March, he visited Egypt where he met Al Sissi and Egypt’s top Muslim and Coptic leaders.

“This reflects the depth and strength of historical and strategic relations between the two countries,” Saudi Ambassador to Egypt Osama bin Ahmed said in a press statement.

Relations have grown between Egypt and Saudi Arabia since 2013 when Al Sissi led the army’s toppling of Islamist president Mohammad Mursi following enormous street protests against his one-year rule.

Last year, Egypt joined Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain in breaking off diplomatic and transportation links with Qatar over its support for terrorist groups.

Qatar is a staunch backer of the Muslim Brotherhood, which Egypt and Saudi Arabia have outlawed.
