Royal Oman Police investigating deadly incident as community calls for safety awareness

Dubai: A family of six — a husband, wife and their four children — were found dead in their home in the Al Atkiyah area in the Wilayat of Al Amerat, Oman, after reportedly inhaling carbon monoxide while asleep, security authorities have confirmed.
In a statement on its X account, the Royal Oman Police said its operations centre received an emergency call reporting the deaths, adding that initial findings suggest the family may have been exposed to a gas leak during the night. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
Carbon monoxide, a colourless and odourless gas, is often produced by faulty heaters and poorly ventilated appliances and can cause death within minutes when inhaled in high concentrations.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and shock across the Sultanate, with authorities urging the public to ensure proper ventilation and regular maintenance of gas-powered equipment.
