Dubai: Four people, including three schoolchildren, were killed and twelve others injured on Wednesday in a devastating bus crash in the Al Rusaiss area of Izki, in Oman’s Dakhliyah Governorate.

According to a statement by the Royal Oman Police, the incident occurred when a school bus collided with a stationary object and overturned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, along with three children.

Twelve other schoolchildren sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly and provided immediate assistance at the crash site, where the overturned bus and scattered debris partially obstructed the roadway.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the crash.

"The Royal Oman Police extends its condolences to the families of the victims and affirms that investigations are underway to uncover the full details behind the accident," the statement said.

The tragedy has sparked renewed concern about road safety, particularly in relation to school transportation.

Although Oman has made significant progress in improving road infrastructure and enforcing traffic regulations, the incident underscores ongoing challenges in ensuring the safety of children during transit.
