Cairo: Indians lead the way for the total number of foreigners manning Oman’s government sector, official figures have shown.
By the end of last year, they made up 12,453 of the sultanate’s total government employees of 229,386 including 34,000 foreigners, according to recent figures released by Oman’s state National Centre for Statistics and Information.

There are 195,338 Omani citizens working in the sector. Egyptians came second in the numbers of foreign government employees with 9,631. Pakistani employees stand at 1,325, according to the figures.
Foreigners account for 2 million of Oman’s total population of about 5 million. They include at least 800,000 Indian workers and 250,000 Pakistanis.
