Dubai: Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has refused to renew the residency of 200 Egyptian teachers whose visas expired abroad, Al Anba daily reported on Sunday.

The ministry said it does not have the authority to renew visas for expatriates whose residency visas expired while they are abroad.

“It is up to the Interior Ministry to decide whether to renew their expired visas,” the Education Ministry said in its statement.

Meanwhile, the joint coordination committee between the Teachers' Association and the Ministry of Education has stopped their work. It has not held a meeting for several months after their cooperation reached an impasse regarding the issue of discussing and resolving many outstanding issues.

The association had earlier submitted a number of suggestions to the committee, which were shelved.
