Patna: Regretful robbers returned all the looted goods and also extended a warm welcome to a passerby after coming to know that the man they had robbed was in fact married to a girl from their village and the victim was their son-in-law in a relationship.

The incident took place in Begusarai district of Bihar on Tuesday.

According to reports, Amar Kumar, a resident of Samastipur district, was going to the house of his father-in-law in Begusarai district on his motorbike when a gang of robbers waylaid him at gun-point at a deserted location on Tuesday evening.

The robbers took away his bike, cell phone as well as his purse containing Rs5,000 in cash. Subsequently, they tied him to a tree. During his captivity, the robbers inquired about his identity and the place he was visiting.

Responding to their queries, the victim revealed that he was going to the house of his father-in-law in the nearby village and that he was married to the daughter of one Ghuran Mahato.

Reports said the behaviour of the robbers suddenly changed the moment he introduced himself as the son-in-law of the villager. In the next one hour, the criminals not only extended a warm welcome to the victim and took proper care of him but also returned all the looted goods.

Based on the information provided by the victim, the police have launched a hunt to identify the gang, but at the same time, the hospitality offered by the gangsters has become a talk of the town.

“We are really amazed to know the way the robbers extended a warm welcome after coming to know about the victim’s identity. Yet have requested the police to intensify patrolling in the area,” former village council chief Arvind Kumar said.

According to a report of state police, a total of 1,078 incidents of road robbery have been reported in the state till June this year. During the same period, 17,962 cases of theft have been reported in the current year.
