UAE’s first intercity passenger railway promises faster, greener travel
Etihad Rail’s passenger train service is set to launch in 2026, slashing travel time between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to under 60 minutes, the company has confirmed.
The project marks a major milestone in the UAE’s efforts to modernise its transport infrastructure and reduce road congestion.
The new service is part of the broader UAE National Rail Network, a strategic initiative that connects key cities across the country. Once operational, it is expected to transform daily commuting, boost tourism, and support sustainable economic growth.
The rail line will feature modern passenger trains capable of reaching speeds up to 200 km/hr. In addition to offering a faster alternative to driving, the service is designed to be environmentally friendly—reducing carbon emissions and supporting the UAE’s sustainability goals.
The route will include major stops in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, with future expansions planned to link more cities. Each station will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including seamless transport connections to metros, buses and taxis.
The passenger train’s 2026 launch is in line with the UAE’s long-term vision to enhance mobility, connect communities and provide efficient, low-emission public transport options across the Emirates.
