Dubai: Whether it’s a stress-free weekend escape to Fujairah’s beaches or a smoother weekday commute between Sharjah and Dubai, Etihad Rail’s upcoming passenger train service is set to reshape life for UAE residents and tourists alike.

Slated to launch in 2026, the passenger rail network is being designed with convenience in mind—cutting inter-city travel times, reducing the need for cars, and opening up the country for quick, affordable getaways.

And this isn’t just about skipping traffic. It’s about unlocking the full range of what the UAE has to offer—culture in Sharjah, desert retreats in Al Ain, or coastal breaks in Ras Al Khaimah—with the simplicity and comfort of train travel.

Designed to serve 36 million passengers a year by 2030, the network will eventually connect 11 cities and regions, stretching from Al Sila near the Saudi border to Fujairah in the east. The goal? To make car-free exploration a viable and attractive option for both residents and tourists.

Game-changer for daily life

With key stops planned across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and more, residents commuting for work or school can look forward to a faster, more predictable alternative to congested highways. As fuel prices rise and road congestion worsens in key corridors, this new option could significantly shift local travel habits.

Tourists flying into Abu Dhabi or Dubai airports will also have seamless access to the rest of the UAE’s attractions—without needing to rent a car. Etihad Rail has emphasized that stations will be fully integrated with public transport, offering easy last-mile connectivity.

More than a transit network

  • Dh100 billion in reduced travel costs and time

  • Dh23 billion in improved land access and urban development

  • Dh22 billion in road accident savings

  • Dh8 billion in reduced road maintenance

Tourism is also set to benefit. With easier access to less-visited emirates and natural attractions, officials expect domestic tourism to generate Dh24 billion in revenue over the same period.

Bottom line? Whether you’re heading to work, planning a weekend adventure, or simply avoiding traffic stress, Etihad Rail promises to change how you move around the UAE—making it easier, cheaper, and more enjoyable.
