Dubai’s smart mobility upgrades

Dubai is advancing smart mobility with The Future Loop, first crewed eVTOL flights, and 72 major road, bridge, and tunnel projects aimed at easing traffic and improving connectivity by 2027.

  • The Future Loop: A pedestrian-first initiative under the Dubai Walk Master Plan, featuring 3,300 km of new walkways, 2,300 km of upgraded routes, over 110 bridges and tunnels, and a 2 km climate-controlled landmark bridge connecting major city landmarks. Goal: increase pedestrian mobility from 13% to 25% by 2040.

  • Electric aerial taxis: Joby Aviation’s eVTOL aircraft completed its first crewed flight, with a 160 km range, speeds up to 320 km/h, carrying four passengers plus a pilot. A 3,100 m² vertiport near DXB is under construction.

  • Road network expansion: RTA is implementing 72 projects covering 226 km of roads, 115 bridges and tunnels, and 11 major corridors to ease congestion and improve connectivity by 2027.

Sheikh Hamdan said Dubai’s ongoing infrastructure projects reflect a forward-looking vision to build a connected, sustainable city driven by innovation. He noted that these initiatives align with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, reinforcing the emirate’s position as one of the world’s most liveable and dynamic cities.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that Dubai’s urban development strategy is guided by long-term planning, agility, and a focus on enhancing quality of life. By embedding technology and sustainability into every stage of development, Dubai continues to set global benchmarks for smart and resilient city design.
