Dubai: Police are warning motorists not to park in illegal spaces, or else face a Dh1,000 fine and six black points.

Illegal parking includes parking in reserved areas, near fire hydrants, or in parking lots designated for ambulance and police vehicles, and people of determination.

The phrase ‘people of determination’ was coined in 2017 by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Brigadier Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of central operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, stressed that motorists should not take advantage of parking spaces that were dedicated to others.

“By abusing the parking spaces of other, people end up wasting a great deal of time searching for an alternative parking space that is far from their destination,” said Brig Gen Al Humaidi.

“Motorists should know that these spots are not for them to park and they are taking the right of another person who is in need for this spot,” he added.

Authorities are continuously monitoring the issue of illegal parking across the UAE, and a year-long campaign has been underway in all emirates.
