Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, issued Law No 13 of 2017 changing the name of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination.

Pursuant to the new Law, the name of the Committee will be replaced in Law No 2 of 2014 concerning Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Executive Council’s Resolution No 3 of 2014 on the formation of the Committee and any other operative legislation in Dubai.

The New Law is effective from the date of issuance, and will be published in the Official Gazette.

While launching the National Strategy for Empowering People with special needs, Shaikh Mohammad used the term “people of determination” instead of “people with special needs”. He also ordered concerned government entities to appoint a dedicated person in every service-related organisation to facilitate services for people of determination.
