Dubai: Returning to Dubai after the summer break or visiting for the first time? If you plan to use the Dubai Metro from Dubai International Airport - Terminal 1 and 3 for its affordability and convenience, it’s important to know the operating hours, routes, and ticketing rules. Unlike other transport options, the Metro does not run 24 hours a day, so planning your journey in advance is essential.

Terminal 1

To Centrepoint:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:06 am – 12:00 am

  • Friday: 5:06 am – 1:00 am

  • Saturday: 5:06 am – 11:59 pm

  • Sunday: 8:23 am – 11:59 am

To Expo 2020:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:07 am – 10:58 pm

  • Friday: 5:07 am – 11:58 pm

  • Saturday: 5:07 am – 10:59 pm

  • Sunday: 8:07 am – 10:59 am

Terminal 3

To Centrepoint:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:08 am – 12:00 am

  • Friday: 5:08 am – 1:02 am

  • Saturday: 5:08 am – 1:01 am

  • Sunday: 8:25 am – 12:01 am

To Expo 2020:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:05 am – 10:56 pm

  • Friday: 5:05 am – 11:56 pm

  • Saturday: 5:05 am – 10:57 pm

  • Sunday: 8:06 am – 10:58 am

Note: First and last metro trips differ by station and direction. Times are as per station clocks and may change during special events. If changing trains at an interchange station, reach the outbound platform within five minutes.

Dubai Metro routes

  • Red Line: Centrepoint ↔ Expo 2020 / Life Pharmacy

  • Green Line: e& ↔ Creek

Interchange stations:

  • Union and BurJuman: Red ↔ Green Line transfer

  • SOBHA REALITY and DMCC: Metro ↔ Tram transfer

Metro station opening hours (All lines):

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:00 am – 12:00 am

  • Friday: 5:00 am – 1:00 am (next day)

  • Saturday: 5:00 am – 12:00 am

  • Sunday: 8:00 am – 12:00 am

Dubai Metro baggage policy

According to the RTA, each passenger can carry up to two suitcases:

  • Large suitcase: Max dimensions 81cm x 58cm x 30cm

  • Small suitcase: Max dimensions 55cm x 38cm x 20cm

All luggage must be stored in the dedicated area inside the cabin.

nol cards and tickets

If you are using the Metro for the first time, you will need a nol card, Dubai’s official public transport payment system. Tickets are available at counters or vending machines.

  1. nol red ticket: Disposable paper card, Dh2, for single trips. Only one transport mode per trip (Metro, bus, or tram).

  2. nol silver card: One-time Dh25 purchase, Dh19 usable for services, valid for five years.

  3. Nol gold card: Dh25, allows access to Gold Class cabins on Metro and Tram.

  4. nol blue card: Personalised card linked to Emirates ID, Dh70 (Dh20 usable), requires photo and ID at the ticket office.
