Muscat: UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths expressed his gratitude to Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq for his continued commitment and efforts for peace in Yemen.
In a Tweet, Griffiths stressed the Sultanate is a key partner of the United Nations in its efforts to mediate a solution to the conflict in Yemen.
Rosemary DiCarlo, Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs, also expressed her gratitude to Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and also to Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their unwavering support for Griffiths.
The US State Department issued a statement as well thanking Sultan Haitham and Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their support for the efforts of the UN and US special envoys to Yemen.
The statement of US State Department said they are committed to a ceasefire and a political solution to the conflict in Yemen.
The Sultanate said today that it will continue to work closely with Saudi Arabia, UN and US envoys on Yemen and the concerned Yemeni parties to reach a comprehensive political settlement to the current crisis in Yemen.
“The Sultanate hopes that these parties will achieve the desired result in the near future, which will restore security and stability in Yemen and preserve the security and interests of the countries of the region.”
