Dubai: Saudi Arabia announced the detection of 1,569 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 293,037.
The country’s overall deaths have risen to 3,269 after 36 fatalities were reported during the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said during its press conference on Wednesday.
The recovery rate rose to 87.7 per cent after the recovery of 2.151 people infected with the virus, pushing the total number of recovered cases to 257,269.
There are 32,499 active cases, including 1,826 critical under intensive treatment. Dr. Mohammad Al Abdul Ali, the Health Ministry’s spokesperson, said more than 4 million COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the Kingdom since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We will conduct the third clinical trial of COVID-19 vaccine, building on the success of the phase I and phase II. The investigational vaccine has so far proved its effectiveness in the first and second phase. We will soon announce the mechanism for volunteers who want to sign up for the phase 3 clinical trial for the vaccine. However, we will also continue to follow the latest COVID-19 vaccine developments,” Dr. Al Abdul Ali said.
He confirmed that COVID-19 disease is not seasonal, and hence people must continue to wear face masks for their own safety and that’s of others. ‘The virus still actively exists, and we are required to strictly abide by precautionary measures,” the spokesperson added.
