Dubai: A gang of three men who impersonated police officers to rob houses, vehicles and workers in the Kingdom’s eastern region has been arrested.

The Saudi gang members were tracked down after police received several reports about a series of thefts carried out in different neighbourhoods in Dammam, Captain Mohammed Al Duraihim, assistant media spokesperson of the Eastern Region Police, said.

The suspects, in their 30s and 40s disguised themselves as policemen to break-into houses and steal from parked vehicles and expat workers.

A team of investigators was formed to track down the suspects and was able to arrest them.

Upon investigation, the suspects confessed to carrying out 47 crimes. They have been referred to public prosecution and remanded in police custody pending further invesigations and trial on charges of armed robbery and assault, Captain Al Duraihim added.
