Dubai: Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Saturday announced 277 new cases of COVID-19, two deaths and 247 recoveries.

This brings the total number of infections to 114,809, and death toll to 192 while there have been to 111,505 recoveries overall.

The Ministry said the deceased were aged 75 and 81 respectively and were receiving the necessary medical care.

All new cases have been placed under isolation and are receiving necessary healthcare according to their health status.

On the present status of COVID-19 spread in Qatar, the ministry said the marked fall in the daily number of cases and the reduction in the number of hospital admissions indicate that Qatar has succeeded in tackling the pandemic in the country. It was the proactive and extensive testing of suspected cases that enabled the country to identify a high number of positive cases in the community, MoPH said.

It also pointed out that Qatar has one of the lowest COVID-19 death rates in the world and that is because of a number of factors like the very high quality of care provided to the patients, Qatar’s young population, proactive testing to identify cases early, the hiked capacity of hospitals, especially the intensive care facilities, the protection being given to the elderly and those with chronic diseases.
