Cairo: Qatar’s Health Ministry has rubbished rumours it is offering COVID-19 vaccine injections to citizens and residents without appointments.

“There is no correctness in reports that the vaccination against COVID-19 is available to whoever wants to head to the inoculation centre at the Qatar National Convention Centre,” the ministry said.

“The Health Ministry confirms that to ensure society’s safety and smooth and effective conducting of the inoculation process, invitations will be sent for receiving the vaccination gradually and in stages,” it added.

Text message

The would-be recipients will receive a short text message asking them to show up at the vaccination centre at given appointments, it added on its Twitter account.

“The vaccine will be only given to the invitation holders. Others will have to wait until they receive the invitation via short messages provided that they carry a valid health card when they show up at the fixed inoculation appointment,” the ministry said.

Last December, Qatar launched a mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19.
