Dubai: Qatar reported 1,901 new coronavirus cases, raising the country’s total number of infections to 62,160, the Ministry of Public Health announced on Wednesday.

Two more people have also died from the COVID-19 virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 45. The deceased are two expatriate men aged 53 and 48 who died due to medical complications caused by the virus.

The ministry also revealed the recovery of 1,506 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total recovered cases to 37,542.

There are 24,573 active cases still receiving medication at hospitals, while the number of critical cases has risen to 237, with 15 new critically ill patients are admitted to intensive care unit during the past 24 hours.

There are expatriate workers among the newly diagnosed cases who were in contact with previously infected patients, the ministry said in its daily updates.

The ministry attributed the rise in the number of daily reported cases due to people’s failure to avoid social gatherings and not abidance to the social distancing protocol.

There is also a surge in the number of citizens and expatriate residents among the newly diagnosed cases of the coronavirus infection due to family gatherings and contacting previously confirmed cases within families.

Qatar is now at the peak of the coronavirus outbreak, as it has been seeing a rise in the number of the daily reported. The ministry highlighted the necessary for people to adhere more than ever to preventive measures and recommended social distancing measures to help curb the spread of the virus.
