Muscat: Dr. Faisal Al Miqdad, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and his accompanying delegation arrived in the Sultanate for an official visit that will last for several days.

It was in November last year that Dr. Miqdad was appointed through a Presidential Decree as Foreign and Expatriates Minister of Syria.

Dr. Miqdad was born in Daraa in 1954 and is a graduate in English Literature from Damascus University. He holds a doctorate in English Literature from Charles University in Prague, 1992.

Dr. Miqdad served in the diplomatic body in a number of posts, including working as the head of the Syrian delegation at the United Nations, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2006.

High-level meetings

The visiting delegation is expected to hold several high-level meetings in Oman and discuss various relevant issues regionally and internationally. Oman’s Foreign Ministry has tweeted about the visiting delegation from Syria to Oman. The Syrian delegation visited today the National Museum in Muscat which features archaeological collection from Syria.

The guests viewed the Syrian archaeological holdings and the Palmyra pieces that were preserved by the curators in the National Museum. It is worth noting that the National Museum Oman, participated in November 2019 in the Culture Day held at the headquarters of the National Museum in Damascus.
