The Royal Oman Police (ROP) said the driver had been nabbed in the Al Batinah North Governorate.

“Legal procedures are being finalized and he will be referred to judicial agencies,” the ROP added in a tweet.

The incident is the latest such act reported in Oman.

On Thursday, the ROP reported arresting another driver on similar charges in Al Batinah North and seizing two vehicles prepared to be used for roads stunts in the state of Suhar, which is part of Al Batinah North.

The ROP urged citizens and expatriates to report such acts to police to help eliminate the practice blamed for fatal mishaps.

In recent years, Oman has stepped up efforts to curb the practice that involves rash driving at high speed and abrupt stops, a display often watched by a gathering of fans.

Car stunts are an offence in Oman punishable by up to one year in prison and a maximum fine of OMR500.

Offenders also face withdrawal of their driving licence for three months.
