Cairo: Around 3,053 children are among a total of 83,769 people who have been infected so far with the new coronavirus in Oman, Health Ministry figures have shown.

The infected children are under the age of four, the Omani newspaper al-Shabiba reported.

Infected Omanis have accounted for 51,589 of the overall infections.

The number of males who have contracted the disease has reached 61,382 against 22,387 among females, the ministry noted.

Deaths due to COVID-19 in Oman have reached 609, including 406 among Omanis and 203 among foreign residents, according to the figures.

The ministry’s figures also showed that Muscat takes the lead in the numbers of recorded infections with 41,865.

Last week, Omani authorities lifted a ban on nighttime movement that was imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19.
