Muscat: Four vaccination centres that opened in four sites in Muscat governorate saw steady footfall of people 60 years and above, both residents as well as Omanis for their COVID-19 shots.

The vaccination centre set up were at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher for those residing in the Seeb and Bausher region, Sablah Muttrah Centre in Muttrah High Street for those staying in Muttrah and Muscat area, Health Complex of Quriyat for the residents and citizens of Quriyat and Saada Wali of Amerat for those living in Amerat region.

The centres that are under the remit of the Ministry of Health continued their vaccination programme with the Pfizer – BioNTech as well as Oxford – AstraZeneca vaccines.

Kochu Thresia, 81-year-old resident of Oman, who is staying with her son and his family took her first shot of COVID-19 vaccine at the Sablah Muttrah. “The socially distanced seating inside the huge hall, the courtesy of the staff and the efficient handling by the doctors and nurses are all worth spreading the news about. I hope they start the other age group soon so that my 51-year-oldson can also have the shot.”

Seamless operation

Those who had come for their first shot were given Pfizer injections and second-shot-takers got their shot depending on their first one. The centres are open for vaccination service during the week days from 7:30am till 2pm.

Dr. Thamrah bint Saeed Al Ghafriya, Acting Director-General of Health Services in the Governorate of Muscat, in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) stressed the importance of having centres that can accommodate a larger number of vaccine recipients to ensure a seamless operation.

She indicated that the vaccination sites ensure the implementation of precautionary measures especially in the wake of increase in the number of COVID-19 cases and the high turnout of people for taking the vaccine.
