Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) will be holding a virtual ceremony celebrating the Omani Youth Day tomorrow starting at 12pm.
Held under the patronage of the young Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Sayyid Dhi Yazan bin Haitham Al Said, the event is being held in appreciation of the pioneering role played by the Omani youth in various spheres.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, was established through a Royal Decree No. 87 / 2020 in August this year and Sayyid Dhi Yazan Haithan Al Said was named as the Minister. The recent times have seen various new initiatives being undertaken in the field of sports including completion of Buraimi sports stadium, Sohar Sports complex, apart from various pioneering courses and workshops conducted online for sports coaches by leading personalities, to name a few.
As per the data shared by the statistical year book 2019, the percentage indicated by those in the age group below 39 years old, constitute the majority of the Omani population. While 15.3 per cent of the Omani population comprises of those in the age group four and below, the age group of five to nine come close with 12.9 per cent of the total population, with age group ten to fourteen accounting for 9.7 per cent, closely followed by the 25 to 29 years of age, accounting for 9.4 per cent of the total Omani population.
The age-population graph shows a clear skew towards the youth forming the majority of the total Omani population.
Oman has produced some iconic names in the field of sports and other fields as well setting a shining beacon of example for other fellow citizens to pursue the path of excellence. Some of the names in the reckoning are retired footballer Ali Al Habsi who was Oman national team’s goal keeper, who also played for Wigan Athletic, car racing driver Ahmad Al Harthy and tennis ace Fatma Al Nabhani to name a few.
There are native talents in the field of art, music, poetry, and fashion designing as well that command a huge fan-base across the GCC as well as ME.
