Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Education has opened registration for news students for first grade for the 2020-21 academic year. The notification shared by the official Twitter handle of Ministry of Education @eEduGovOman informed that admissions are open for children born between September 1, 2014 and December 31, 2015.
The registration announcement stated that applications are to be submitted through the ministry’s website. The application process stipulates that the child must have a valid birth certificate, and a valid resident card for non-Omani children. The child will have to go through a medical examination, and in the event that the child has a chronic disease, the school administration is provided with a medical report. The medical report will document the findings pertaining to any diseases or disabilities as revealed by the medical examination through an accredited health institution.
The announcement indicated that registration begins on October 11 and will go on till December 31, 2020.
The Ministry had a survey running that called for suggestions and feedback on the resumption of school and on tackling various related issues. Many responded with affirmative voice in support of resumption.
Social Media channels were abuzz with many users appreciating the decision of the Ministry to go ahead with the school reopening after taking the concurrence of the parents and teachers’ communities.
One Twitter-user summed by saying that managing the situation with the illness was the right decision. “Isolation at home has no real benefit, and it has negative effect on the psyche of children. Returning to school is a sound decision, with fewer working hours and lesser number of students.”
