Muscat: Oman will reduce residential electricity bills during the peak summer months from May to August 2025, the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) announced.

The move is aimed at easing financial pressure amid high seasonal electricity demand.

The discounts will apply to basic residential account holders, with rates varying based on monthly consumption:

  • May 2025:

    • 0–4,000 KWh: 15% discount

    • 4,001–6,000 KWh: 10% discount

    • Above 6,001 KWh: 5% discount

  • June to August 2025:

    • 0–4,000 KWh: 20%

  • 4,001–6,000 KWh: 15%

  • Above 6,001 KWh: 10%

  • To support consumers further, the APSR has instructed licensed utility companies not to disconnect electricity services for basic accounts during the summer.

Additionally, residents will have the option to defer bill payments, in line with regulatory guidelines.

Authorities say the measures aim to ensure service continuity and protect consumer rights during the hot season.

The APSR also urges eligible citizens and residents to register for the National Subsidy System, which offers additional financial relief to those who meet the income and residency requirements.
