Dewa’s free digital services help monitor consumption, detect leaks, and manage bills
Dubai: Do you find yourself puzzled by high utility bills each month? If your electricity or water charges seem unusually high, you do not need to hire professionals to investigate the issue, your phone is all you need.
Dubai residents can take advantage of free digital tools provided by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) to monitor their consumption in real time. These services are part of DEWA’s ‘Smart Living’ initiative, designed to help customers track and manage their electricity and water usage efficiently. To access these features, you must have a Dewa account. The tools are available under the ‘Consumption Management’ section on both the Dewa website and mobile app.
Have you ever returned from a holiday only to be shocked by an unexpectedly high utility bill? DEWA’s ‘Away Mode’ helps you avoid this by allowing you to track your home’s electricity and water usage while you are out of the country.
This feature provides regular updates on your home’s consumption and alerts you to any unusual spikes. To activate ‘Away Mode,’ you need a smart electricity and water meter installed in your home. You can set it up through your DEWA account on the website (www.dewa.gov.ae) or the smart app, available for both Apple and Android devices. Users can specify the duration for which they want the service activated and opt to receive daily or weekly consumption reports via email.

If you have noticed an unexpected spike in your electricity consumption, DEWA’s ‘Consumption Assessment Tool’ can help you cut down on unnecessary usage. This tool analyses your household’s electricity consumption and provides tailored recommendations on how to reduce energy usage effectively. It is available through the Dewa website and app, making it easy for residents to track and adjust their energy habits.

A sudden increase in your water bill could indicate an internal leak, such as a broken pipe or a continuously running toilet. DEWA’s ‘High Water Usage Alert’ system helps detect such issues early, notifying customers of any abnormal water consumption.
This service automatically sends alerts via email, SMS, or the DEWA smart app if your water meter records consistently high consumption over a 48-hour period, compared to your average daily usage over the last three months. To ensure you receive these notifications, it’s crucial to keep your contact details up to date with Dewa.
