Dubai: Oman’a land borders will stay closed for another week until February 8 to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, state news agency ONA said on Sunday.
The decision was taken by the Sultanate’s Supreme Committee tasked with tackling coronavirus. The move comes as the Sultanate has recently seen an increase in the daily reported cases of COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health on Sundayannounced the detection of 598 infections, including four cases of the new strain of coronavirus mutant.
The ministry attributed the increasing cases to lax adherence to wearing face masks and avoiding large social gatherings.
On January 17, Oman closed its land borders for one week until January 24. The closure was then extended till February 1 amid concerns over the new strain of the COVID-19 variant.
