Muscat: Oman’s Directorate General Health Services (DGHS) responsible for the Governorate of Muscat has announced that the start of COVID-19 vaccination will begin soon for 12th grade students.

As per the directive of Supreme Committee, grade 12 students have been included in the upcoming phase of immunization programme as they have to appear for public examination scheduled to happen in the coming months.

Oman’s Ministry of Health earlier announced on the postponement of administration of the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine until June this year.

MoH clarified that the postponement was due to the directives of Oman’s Supreme Committee to prioritise vaccination of twelfth grade students before their final exam date.

One million doses

Oman has reserved 4.3 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech through global alliance apart from 1.5 million doses from various other global companies. Next month will see the arrival of one million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and another 100,000 from other pharma collaborations. Plans have been drawn on the distribution of these vaccines to the various governorates in Oman.

Ministry of Health Oman noted that the distribution for the next phase of vaccination will be based on the density of the population of the various regions in Oman, with focus on the target group of those over 45 years.
