Muscat: Coinciding with the celebration of the Omani Youth Day today, the Muscat Training Centre of Outward Bound Oman, was inaugurated by Dhi Yazan bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.

Dhi Yazan bin Haitham Al Said, in his address on the occasion of Omani Youth Day said that the nation will continue according to the wise vision of His Majesty the Sultan to build a generation of young people capable of thinking, analysing and using creativity.

The newly inaugurated training centre is considered one of the unique buildings that absorb solar energy significantly. The center includes equipment stores, administrative offices, two indoor training rooms, a lecture hall with a capacity of 60 people, and a climbing wall 9 meters high. The opening of this center comes as part of Outward Bound Oman’s plan to establish three national training centers in the Sultanate, this being the second that has been commissioned. The first was inaugurated in Sharkia Sands in 2018 by Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al Said while the work is on progress on the third, in Jabal Akhdar.

Outward Bound was founded in 1941 by the naval captain Laurence Holt, and the educationalist Kurt Hahn, for providing training for young and inexperienced sailors who were drafted into the navy during the Second World War. After the war it was felt that the courses offered by Outward Bound were valuable for society in general, and Outward Bound expanded rapidly around the world. Today there are Outward Bound centres in more than 30 countries. In May 2009, Outward Bound was launched in Oman, the first Outward Bound School in any Arabic speaking country, and in 2014 it was further established by a Ministerial Decision, operating as an educational foundation under the Ministry of Social Development. Outward Bound Oman has trained about 18,000 participants since its inception in 2009.

Outward Bound Oman uses the outdoors and their national training centres for learning that makes a lasting difference to the lives of thousands of people in Oman each year.
