The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, meanwhile, confirmed preparations for the looming storm. The ministry said it has formed field response work teams in the sultanate’s governorates expected to be affected by the storm, according to ONA.

The ministry has also provided the necessary machinery for reopening roads and pumping rainwater as well as constantly monitoring dams and wadis in rain-hit areas.

On Wednesday, Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) said in a weather alert that a tropical low-pressure development is predicted over the north-eastern Arabia Sea as of Thursday evening.

The alert cited chances of varying intensity of rainfall ranging from 40 to 100 ml per 24 hours, reaching the peak on Saturday.

Warning against rough sea waves ranging in height from three to five metres, the PACA said seawater inundation could affect low-lying areas along with coastal areas during high tides.

Citizens and expatriate residents are advised to be cautious during rainfall, stay away from low-lying areas and avoid crossing wadis, according to the alert.
