Abu Dhabi: Cats and dogs are not the only animals that receive the best care as a Kuwaiti woman has proved by sponsoring an 18-month-old orphan elephant called Naliku who lives in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
Speaking to Al Jarida newspaper, Sarah Aba Al Quloub said that she adopted the elephant through a website for $50 a year which also offers , rhinos and giraffes and offers hope to animals in need.
Aba Al Qouloub says she obtained a certificate of adoption for the elephant from the management of the “Sheldrick wildlife trust” website - known for their work to protect elephants and which operates the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation programme in the world. They provided her with pictures and videos of it to check on its health and safety, in addition to providing her with pictures of its residence.
On her Twitter account, Aba Al Quloub said, “I adopted an elephant called Naliku, which is 18 months old. For those who suggest we should be bothered more by the human’s suffering than by the pain felt by the animals, I would say I care for humans too.” .
