Kuwait City: On Monday, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health met to discuss a proposal for the gradual return to schools by the second semester, Al Jarida reported.
One main issue that was discussed at the meeting was in regard to vaccinating teachers and administrative staff who work in schools by the beginning of the second semester.
The Acting Under secretary of the Ministry of Education, Faisal Al Maqsid, announced that the Ministry of Education will provide the Ministry of Health the names of the teachers and school staff to include them within the priority segment.
In a statement, Al Maqsid said, “During the meeting, the plan to reopen schools was reviewed by the Ministry of Education and many health requirements were set into place in the event that schools gradually reopen.”
School closures
All schools, pre-schools and universities, were closed since March 12 over the growing concern of the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
After a seven-month halt, all public schools began the 2020/2021 academic year but it is all being done online. Private schools as well are conducting e-learning for the current academic year, but most private schools continued the 2019/2020 school online.
The only schools that were given the green light to operate to have in-person lessons are schools for children with special needs, who resumed classes on December 20.
