Court charges him with broadcasting fake news and insulting Kuwaiti Emir
Dubai: Kuwait’s Criminal Court on Monday sentenced Hakim Al Mutairi, former secretary general of the Salafi Movement, to life term in prison over leaked recordings of a meeting with the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, local media reported.
Al Mutairi has been charged with broadcasting fake news and insulting the Emir of Kuwaiti. He might be charged with spying by a higher court, Kuwaiti sources said.
In June 2020, the State Security Agency at the Ministry of Interior referred Hakim Al Mutairi and former MP Mubarak Al Duwailah to the Public Prosecution over their leaked talks with the late Libyan leader.
The audio leaks, revealing a plot to destabilise security in the Gulf region and Egypt, were circulated in June 2020 by Qatari dissident Khalid Al Hail, who lives in London.
